The city of Marietta will host the National League of Cities' Information Technology and Communications steering committee meeting May 31 to June 2, 2007. The committee is composed of elected officials from around the country who will be meeting in Marietta to discuss technology and its importance to local government.
The Information Technology and Communications (ITC) Steering Committee has jurisdiction over issues related to telecommunications and information systems and public access to these systems, including privacy issues, cable TV, phone services, spectrum issues, communications tower siting, universal service, broadcasting, and defense of city rights-of-way from degradation caused by installation of communications facilities.
The steering committee will spend its time in Marietta researching priority topics and drafting policy positions for policy and advocacy committee review. In addition, the committee will learn about the city of Marietta’s innovative programs utilizing technology.
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. Its mission is to strengthen and promote cities as centers of opportunity, leadership, and governance. The Information Technology and Communications committee is an important component of this respected national organization.
