Dr. John Mench of the Construction Management Department at Southern Polytechnic State University has been named the Georgia Engineer of the Year in Education by the Georgia Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE.

Dr. Mench has been with Southern Polytechnic for eight years, teaching mechanical and electrical systems and construction finance. The licensed engineer was nominated for this honor by the American Society of Heating and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.(ASHRAE.

The award will be presented to Dr. Mench at the NSPE Georgia Engineering Week Banquet to be held February 24 at the Thalia N. Carlos Hellenic Community Center.

The banquet is part of several Engineering Week celebrations in Georgia that include a luncheon to be held at Southern Polytechnic State University on February 19. Guest speaker for the SPSU luncheon will be Colonel Benjamin Butler of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
