Chipping Away at the Number of Lost Pets in Georgia

Good Mews, a no-kill, cage-free feline shelter located in Marietta, is on a mission to help pet owners protect their beloved animals from being lost. The shelter will host its first “chipping clinic”...

Each year, over 10 million pets are lost from their owners. Of that number, almost four million pets are euthanized every year because their owners cannot be found in time – in some cases in as few as three days. Without proper identification or medical records, shelters have no way of identifying pets and reuniting them with their owners.

Good Mews, a no-kill, cage-free feline shelter located in Marietta, is on a mission to help pet owners protect their beloved animals from being lost. On Sunday, July 15, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Good Mews will host its first “chipping clinic” at the shelter for both cats and dogs. Pet owners who participate will have their animal chipped and enrolled in the new HomeAgain proactive pet recovery system at the low rate of $25. HomeAgain representatives will be on site to answer questions, and volunteer veterinarians and technicians will assist with the chipping. “No one likes to think that their beloved pet may become lost, but it happens, and chipping can make the difference between life and death,” says Good Mews Shelter Manager, Shannon Crafton.

All proceeds from the chipping clinic will benefit the cats and kittens of Good Mews. For more information about the HomeAgain proactive pet recovery system, visit www.homeagain.com. Pet owners wishing to participate in the clinic should e-mail Good Mews at info@goodmews.org to reserve a spot for their dog or cat.

Good Mews is located in the Fountains Shopping Center at 736 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite A-3 in East Cobb. For more information about Good Mews, please visit our website at www.goodmews.org.

Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs.
