Kelley Horton: A Pulitzer Prize Recipient in the Making

Published Nov 13, 2007

Capturing the essence of a moment through a lens is no easy task, but for a rising 9th grader it became a passion she desired to share with the world. Receiving her first digital camera from her father, Kelley Horton dedicated her spare time to developing her skills as a photographer, snapping pictures of the nature surrounding her, the people known and unknown to her, and architecture that captivated her creative mind…capturing the usual and unusual moments in life, as she puts it. Through self-discovery and various family vacations Kelly was inspired by the images that she captured and continued to experiment with different techniques and styles.

Now five years later, with an internship at Around Town Magazine, under the supervision of Cheryl Greenman, the opportunities keep coming her way. Chrysalis Experiential Academy commissioned her as the editor of their annual student written book titled Mind Harvesting. She has been given the chance to design the honorary award for the distinguished reporter Donna Lowry of WXIA-TV, 11 Alive that will be presented at the Academy’s annual fundraiser, A Winning Experience on November 9. Outside of school, she works as an independent contractor for her father’s business, Hi Tech, and for a local therapist as an event and product photographer.

Kelley plans to attend the Savannah School of Art and Design after the graduates from Chrysalis to fine tune her skills in Photography. She hopes to enter the freelancing work both in the states and abroad. Her drive and motivation serve as an inspiration to her fellow classmates and other young adults her age.
