City of Kennesaw’s 2008 Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival – Call For Entries

Published Jun 7, 2008

The City of Kennesaw will host live entertainment; and showcase plenty of barbequed meat and delicious treats during its annual Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival on Friday and Saturday, August 8-9.

The festival kicks off on August 8 with a FREE blues concert by Bluestorm Recording artist Roger "Hurricane" Wilson at the Ben Robertson Community Center. The concert is scheduled to start at 8 p.m., and is the fourth of five featured performances in the City of Kennesaw's Summer Concert Series. On August 9 at 11 a.m., the event continues with a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned BBQ competition, welcoming cooks from across the region to compete for over $10,000 in cash and prizes. The base fee of $200 (only $175 for KCBS members) enters contestants in the four compulsory KCBS championship categories (chicken, pork ribs, pork & beef brisket) as well as providing one 25’ x 30’ cook space.

A backyard BBQ and peach dessert contest will also take place with judging in four categories: chicken, pork ribs, pork and peach desserts. The two-day event will feature live musical performers and a kids zone with make-and-go crafts and giant inflatables on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The City of Kennesaw's Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival is presented by the City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department. The BBQ competition is a Georgia State Championship Barbeque Cookoff.

The festival will be held this year at a new location in 2008 -- the Ben Robertson Community Center, located at 2753 Watts Drive (near the entrance to Adams Park). Entry forms can be downloaded online at www.kennesaw-ga.gov/pkrec/bbqfestival. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The deadline for contestants is August 1.
