Dance, Paint or Get Fit With Kennesaw Parks and Rec

The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department will be offering an array of classes this spring for adults and children from ballet, ballroom and belly dancing to dog obedience, video game design and gymnastics. Classes are held at locations throughout Kennesaw, including the Ben Robertson Community Center, Community House/Pottery Barn, Adams Park and Swift-Cantrell Park. Below are several upcoming classes. Ballroom Dancing for Teens. Tuesdays, February 19 to March 25, 5:50 p.m. - 6:40 p.m. Ballroom Dancing for Teens will cover basic technique and characteristics of various dances. We'll alternate dances, working on connect! ion, style and syllabus. Students will gain more confidence for social situations, such as prom or homecoming dances; and will increase balance and flexibility through dance sport practice.

Pilates. Wednesdays, February 27 to April 23, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Pilates uses controlled movements to improve your total body strength, flexibility, balance and posture. These movements concentrate on your "core" (back and abdominal) muscles, and are designed to increase strength, flexibility and endurance and improve posture, alignment, coordination and balance - all without building bulky muscles.

Video Game Design. Tuesdays, March 4 to March 25, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Have you ever wanted to learn how to design video games? This introductory class offers a hands-on approach to creating video games on a personal computer. Students will learn how to make professional looking video games without writing a single line of code. Create games with backgrounds,! animated graphics, music and sound effects - even 3-D effects for adv anced users. Be prepared to use your "e-magination"!

Basic Chinese I for Children Thursdays, March 6 to April 24, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. This class is designed for children who have little or no knowledge of the Chinese language, Chinese alphabets or characters. Students will be exposed to native Chinese speaking through conversation, and will learn simple idiomatic expressions and sentences used in everyday speech. Students will also be exposed to basic Chinese culture, customs, songs and crafts.

Tennis for Adults - Beginners Wednesdays, March 5 to March 26, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Tennis is social, fun and challenging. This class is designed for adults with little or no tennis experience. We'll introduce the basic strokes with emphasis on proper grips and basic movement. Experience for yourself what 25 million Americans already love about the sport.

Create a Masterpiece - Van Gogh's Fishing Boats Tuesdays, March 4 to April 22, 10:00 a! .m. - 12:30 p.m. Learn time-honored painting principles and techniques, composition, color mixing and harmony as you copy Van Gogh's "Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saints-Maries" in watercolor or oil. Students will be given a basic drawing and guided step-by-step through the painting process, receiving an explanation of Van Gogh's color and composition selection, use of brush strokes and optical color mixing; as well as discussion of outside influences on his works.
