The City of Kennesaw rings in the 2007 holiday season with several free, family-friendly events sure to inspire delight and wonder for the young, and young at heart.
Beginning Tuesday, December 4, the park beside the historic train Depot in downtown Kennesaw will be transformed into forest of beautiful and creatively decorated Christmas trees. A total of 50 full-size Christmas trees will be decorated by area businesses, organizations, school groups and churches. The Depot is located at 2828 Cherokee Street, across the street from the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. The trees will be on display until after the New Year.
The annual Lighting of the City Tree program will be Thursday, December 6 at 7 p.m., at the Depot. The program will include an inspirational musical performance, caroling and free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies.
The City of Kennesaw proudly presents the annual A Day with Santa and Santa Parade on Saturday, December 8 from 12 to 3 p.m. Santa's arrival takes place with a parade down Main Street at noon, featuring costumed characters, musical ensembles, marching bands, designer holiday floats and, of course, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and live reindeer. The parade is expected to last one hour. Arrive early for a good viewing location and dress for appropriately for the weather.
After the parade, children can visit with Santa and his reindeer. Performing artists will also take the stage to entertain audiences and showcase their combined talents. Food will be available for purchase, and free make-and-go holiday crafts will be provided for children.
The Santa Parade begins near the intersection of Park Drive and Main Street and proceeds south and east down Main Street, marching past Cherokee Street, turning left on Sardis Street. The parade will continue north on Sardis Street, finishing near Big Shanty Road and Cherokee Street.
The following roads will be closed during the Santa Parade: Main Street (from Park Drive to Sardis Street), Sardis Street, Big Shanty Road (from Sardis Street to Cherokee Street) and Cherokee Street (from Main Street to Big Shanty Drive).
