Marietta Mayor Bill Dunaway and Police Chief Dan Flynn swore in three of the city's newest police officers at the July City Council meeting.

Heath Edmondson was born in Canton, Ga., and grew up playing baseball. He played at a junior college in Alabama and moved to Marietta in 2004 to play at Southern Polytechnic State University. "I realized I liked living in Marietta when I moved here," Edmondson said, "I look forward to working here and doing good things."

Kanika Blackmon was born in Dothan, Ala., and graduated from Troy University with a bachelor's degree in sports and fitness management. She is working on her master's degree in public administration. "Marietta has a lot of different opportunities," Blackmon said, "I look forward to working with the city."

Robert Fekert is originally from Medford, N.Y. He has a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in psychology. He worked on college campuses in student affairs for many years and at the Chesterfield County Police Department in Virginia for six years. "I moved to Marietta when my wife got a promotion and looked at several departments before choosing Marietta," Fekert said. "I had a really good feeling about the city and the department."
