Marietta's Division of Housing and Community Development, which administers the city's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing programs, will operate the federally-funded United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and state-operated Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) 2008 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for  Cobb County.

The program will replace the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs during the summer vacation period so less fortunate children in Marietta will be able to eat. Free meals will be provided to eligible children in needy neighborhoods across the nation without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap.

Last year 20 sites delivered over 1,500 lunches and snacks daily throughout Cobb County. A final list of 2008 sites will be released before the program starts June 2.
