Bass fishing is tough. The mud line is pretty much almost at the dam on the Etowah arm. It's stained up to about the mouth of Stamp and McCaskey Creek then it's fairly muddy. The Allatoona arm is clear to roughly about Allatoona landing. If you don't like fishing in the cold and muddy water you might want to consider staying home and watching football.
Fishing was tough for us today and I do think we managed a limit of keepers. The fish we did catch were solid keepers in the 1.5 pound range. We caught some on crank baits and some on spoons. The best pattern is to arrive early and leave late and cast like heck all in between (i.e. no pattern). The deep/cold/muddy water was not fun to us today even with the 20 mph winds. When the water clears up we should be in great shape on quite a few different techniques if we can keep this cold weather on top of us.
Back to my trip with Jim Hakala, our fisheries biologist. Jim would like our support on a very cool project he is working on to help the anglers enjoy Lake Allatoona. I have the following dates open. Full or half day Jan 25th and 26th and I have afternoon half days available Jan 22nd-24th. Email me and let’s go try to catch you a BIG LARGEMOUTH and learn the secrets of winter fishing on Allatoona. mbucca@comcast.net

Line sides and the striper fishing is good if you can find clear water. The fish are scattered from the north end of the lake to the south end right now. The key to catching fish right now is clear water. And it seems like the creeks are your best bet. Fish these fish the same as last week. Big baits on planner boards and flat lines in the morning. And down lines after the sun come up. The best bite on the lake right now seems to be before 11am. After that fishing really slows down. You are not going to load the boat right now. But you do have a very good chance to catch a monster, There is a limited top water bite on Allatoona right now but is it only last about 20 minutes at sun up. Trolling has been very slow for the past few days. Look for it to pick back up as the water clears.
I still have some days open in January, if you would like to book a trip give me a call. Remember winter is the time to catch a monster striper so book now.
