Cobb High School All-Stars Compete in Inaugural Football Bowl

Published Dec 17, 2007

The inaugural Cobb County All-Star Senior Bowl will be held Saturday, January 12, at McEachern High School in Powder Springs. The All-Star game is open to the public and tickets are $5. The 100 top athletes were chosen from 18 county high schools, city of Marietta and private high schools. The event is the first time Cobb County high schools have organized an All-Star football classic, and is the foundation of a long range concept of growing into a metro-wide high school football tournament and sports foundation.

Game and player coordination and selection is being provided by the Cobb County Touchdown Club, an organization of high school football head coaches that took inspiration for its beginnings from the Atlanta Touchdown Club, one of the premier football support groups in the country. The CCTDC is entering its fifth year of recognizing and honoring athletes and coaches.

Game week, beginning on Jan. 7, will consist of several events that will provide opportunities for players and families to meet and celebrate. College coaches will be invited to practices and to attend the game to scout potential players. On Monday Jan. 7, the All-Star team players will be partnered with special needs children for a social event. On Wednesday Jan. 9, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a banquet for players and parents. On Thursday, Jan.10, the Honors Banquet will feature Emcee Rhubarb Jones, local Eagle 106.5 radio personality, and special invited keynote speaker Joe Ehrmann, called ‘The Greatest Coach in America’, and well known for his community service, mentoring and speaking. "Season of Life," a New York Times bestseller, is a book written about Ehrmann and his journey from fast-living NFL pro to youth and family advocate.

On game day, there will be an all-day tailgate starting at 9 a.m. and booster clubs, families, and fans are invited to join in the fun. Event information and tickets are available at www.cobbseniorbowl.com.
