SEC Sports Report takes a look at Week 10 in the Southeastern Conference. If you want to know who is up and who is down in SEC football, this is a must read...
Welcome to the SEC Coaches Stock Market Report, Week 10. We look at SEC coaches and the impact they have on their teams like a Wall Street analyst watches stocks. We are gauging multiple factors to evaluate their performance. We are not privy to their practices or insider information; therefore we base our opinions on what we see and read about each team. Our goal is to let you know who is up and who is down in the SEC.
This week, SEC winners outpaced losers 7-4. The weekend finished out some close games but no upsets.
Just so everybody understands the rules of the game: our analysis is a big picture evaluation which includes a lot of factors. We are not evaluating how well a coach calls a game, unless he completely blows it with the potential of losing the confidence of his team. In our opinion, the SEC has twelve of the best coaches in the nation.
The confidence factor is our confidence in the program going forward; Five ***** being the highest rating. If you want to play at home, send us your rankings. Until then, enjoy. It is a volatile market. The stars indicate how we are feeling about a particular coach and this year's team, but what really matters is the rank order of the coaches week to week.
1) Our SEC Coach of the Week is Les Miles. LSU traveled to a hostile Tuscaloosa crowd and walked away the winner 41-34. Once again, when the pressure is on, LSU manages to beat their opponents. The win gives makes the Miles-Saban series 1-0. This week LSU hosts Lousiana Tech for a 7:00 pm CT game. LSU continues to be our highest rated team. We will keep LSU at a 4.5**** confidence rating.
2) Houston Nutt finally got the SEC home game win. Beating Steve Spurrier 48-36 in Fayetteville was just what Nutt needed. The Razorbacks dominated the first half and perservered in the second half to get the SEC win. This week, the Hogs travel to Knoxville for a 12:30 pm ET game covered by Lincoln Financial. We will keep the Hogs at a 3.5*** confidence rating and watch to see how well they play the Vols.
3) Urban Meyer is back on the winning track. The Gators whipped Vandy 49-22 in the Swamp. This week, Florida travels to Columbia to play the Ole Ball Coach. Game time is scheduled for 7:45 pm ET on ESPN. We will keep the Gators at a 4**** confidence rating.
4) Phillip Fulmer has managed to work his way into contention for the SEC East Title. Last week, the Vols whipped Louisiana-Lafayette 59-7. This week, the Vols host a much improved Arkansas team in a game the experts are calling a flip of the coin. The game is set for 12:30 pm ET and will be covered by Lincoln Financial. We will keep the Vols at a 3.5 *** confidence rating.
5) Tommy Tuberville has become a common name in the state of Texas this week. After beating Tennessee Tech 35-3, Auburn prepares for one of its biggest games of the season. This week, Auburn travels to Athens, Georgia to play the Georgia Bulldogs. Game time is set for 3:30 pm ET and will be covered by CBS. We will keep Auburn at a 4**** confidence rating.
6) Mark Richt is leading the SEC East. The Bulldogs got into a shooting contest with Troy and ended up winning 44-34. This week, the Dogs prepare for a home game with rival Auburn in a series that favors the visiting team. Auburn is favored by two. Game time is set for 3:30 pm ET on CBS. We will keep Georgia at a 4**** confidence rating.
7) Ed Orgeron continues winning non-conference games. Last week, Ole Miss beat Northwestern State 38-31. This week, Ole Miss has a bye week. We will keep Ole Miss at a 2.5 ** confidence rating.
8) Sylvester Croom enjoyed having a week off. After upsetting Kentucky, the Dogs needed to rest and prepare for an upset over Alabama. MSU hosts Alabama this week for an 11:30 am CT game carried by Lincoln Financial. We will keep the Dogs at a 3.5*** confidence rating.
9) Rich Brooks needed a week off to re-group his team. After coming out the gates so strong, Kentucky knocked off #1 LSU but lost three out of four SEC games. This week, Kentucky travels to Vandy for a 1:00 pm CT game. We will keep the Cats at a 4**** confidence rating and will watch this game closely.
10) Nick Saban continues to exceed expectations. Alabama played a great game against LSU. In the end, Alabama fell short 41-34. This week, the Crimson Tide travels to Starkville to play an upbeat Miss State team. Game time is set for 11:30 am CT and will be carried by Lincoln Financial. We will keep Bama at a 4**** confidence rating.
11) Bobby Johnson is still one win away from being bowl eligible. Last week, Vandy got crushed by Florida 49-22. This week, Vandy hosts Kentucky for a 1:00 pm CT kick-off. We will keep Vandy at a 3.5 *** confidence rating.
12) Steve Spurrier brings up the bottom again. The Gamecocks have given up 21 points early, two weeks in a row. The Gamecock defense got blistered by Darren McFadden. In the end, the Gamecocks lost 48-36 in a game that put a nail in the casket for any chance of an SEC East title. This week, the Gamecocks host Florida in a 7:45 pm ET game covered by ESPN. We will keep the Gamecocks at a 3.5 *** confidence rating
